Our warm up today was to create the shape and format of the cell membrane. The assignment was to design two identical aliens. The aliens are suppose to have 1 head, 2 legs, no body and no arms. Everything else was left up to your imagination. We put all of our aliens on a big circle on the wall in the shape of a cell membrane. By during this we were able to see the structure of the cell membrane, a phospholipid bi-layer. |
Next we did a little more work with the microscopes, just for practice to look at specimens. We will revisit the microscopes later in the week to look at protists.
Next we added vocabulary on the back of 74 (unicelluar, multicelliar, autotroph, heterotroph, prokaryote and eukaryote). These words will be used when describing the 6 kingdoms of classification.
When Carl Linnaeus developed his system of classification, there were only two kingdoms,Plants and Animals. But the use of the microscope led to the discovery of new organisms and the identification of differences in cells. A two-kingdom system was no longer useful. Today the system of classification includes six kingdoms.
TODAY'S ASSIGNMENT
The first thing I want you to do is watch the Brainpop on the SIX KINGDOMS. As you are watching, take notes on each of the kingdoms on page 75 in your notebook. When you are done watching the video, take the GRADED QUIZ and email me your results [email protected]

Use the following websites to finish filling in the information on each of the Kingdoms. Make sure you you identfiy the following characteristics for each Kingdom.
