If you were not here today, please come by a get a chart from me and fill it in using the handouts below (dino resources). There are no excuses if you were not in class today!!
Our warm up was a review of fossils and plate movement, "Mountaintop Fossils". The Esposito family went hiking on a tall mountain. Mr. Esposito picked up a shelf fossil on the top of the mountain. The fossil was s\once a shelled organism that lived in the ocean. How did an ocean animal end up on the top of a mountain?
Next we did a gallery walk around the classroom reading about the different extinction theories for the dinosaurs. On a chart given to them in class we identified the "what happened", the evidence that supports the theory and the evidence that goes against this theory. If you did not finish, the handouts are found on the bottom.
Finally, based on the research they did in class, students will then pick the theory they think actually occurred and write an opinion piece. The paper should be a minimum of 10 sentences. The essay will include the following.
Give an introduction of what you know about the dinosaurs and their extinction
Identify your stance or claim(opinion) I think the dinosaur extinction was caused by…
Explain what happened
Provide three forms of evidence that support your claim
Acknowledge one other theory but use evidence to convince the reader that your idea is still correct
Essays are due Thursday and Friday, there will also be a open notes quiz on Thursday and Friday.
