Today we read a poem about elements, compounds and mixtures for our warm up today. It was a great review for our mini quiz on the same topic. Quiz grades are already in the gradebook for A Day, B Day your quiz is tomorrow. Then we took notes on page 28 in our notebooks on the Law of Conservation of Mass. The notes were very short and can be found on the powerpoint below.
Finally, we did a quick lab on Law of Conservation of Mass using baking soda and vinegar.

EXOTHERMIC and ENDOTHERMIC! We started the day with a Chemistry rap. The song had a ton of information about chemistry that we have already covered in class. After our warm up we added two new vocabulary words to our notebooks (page 17) : EXOTHERMIC and ENDOTHERMIC. The powerpoint from today can be found at the end of this post. Next we did a lab on exothermic and endothemic reactions using yeast, baking soda, vinegar, and peroxide.
Finally, we ended the day with a review of elements, compounds and mixtures
Today we reviewed elements, compounds and mixtures. We traveled around the classroom and identified 30 different substances as elements, compounds and mixtures. We finished the day with a reading/writing assignment on Mixtures. The assignment should be completed on page 26 in the notebooks. If you did not finish the assignment in class, finish it for homework---1st grade of second quarter! Students received their scantron tests back today, and the grades are already on Powerschools. The students have the opportunity to increase their test grades by doing test corrections. The test is online and the students have their scantron sheet. They will need to write out the test questions they got wrong, and then write the correct answer. Ex. 1. In the modern periodic table, the elements are arranged in order of increasing A. atomic number All test corrections are due by Thursday at 4:15pm. In addition, today we took notes in our notebook on Compounds and Mixtures (page 23) and practiced building compounds (page 24). Here is the powerpoint from today.
Reminder: All late work for all your classes is due by tomorrow 4:15
Test Day!!! Study guides were turned in and notebook checks were done today
